SCHOOL VISITS & FAMILY LITERACY NIGHTS!

Kids watching David Slonim 2015 (3).jpg

Inspire and motivate your students with a special visit from a professional artist and children’s book creator!

“By far the best presenter we have had at our school.”

- Amy Rosebrook, Waterville Primary, OH

My presentations encourage PERSEVERANCE, EMPATHY, AND CREATIVE PLAY.

Kids deserve the truth, so I share actual goof-ups and do-overs to show them that pros make mistakes, too.

Nobody makes great art on the first try. So be like a pro: goof up and do over!

Everything begins as a drawing. Here is a pencil drawing from I LOATHE YOU:

Here are just a few of the many small color studies (acrylic on copy paper):

This is how the painting looks in the book (acrylic and charcoal on illustration board):

The more familiar the kids are with my books before the visit, the more fun it will be for them.

DRAWING DEMO

The kids tell me what to draw (like I’m their trained art-monkey). They give me:

  1. a character

  2. a problem the character is having.

  3. an emotion the character feels.

Here is a drawing demo done for school audience at their direction:

The drawings stay with the school to help the kids remember the fun we had.

I always get a little help coloring the drawings.
